In 1868 The Times of London newspaper installed a Walter Press, developed by the owner of the newspaper, John Walter III, that printed on continuous paper, further increasing the speed of production. This rotary web press initiated modern newspaper printing and served The Times until 1895. The average speed claimed for the Walter Press was 12,000 perfect copies, printed on both sides of the paper, per hour.
