Apple Opens the App Store, the First App Distribution Service

On July 10, 2008 Apple opened its online App-Store. It was the first app distribution service. At launch it contained 522 Apps for the iPhone, including 135 free programs.

When I returned to this entry in September 2020 the App-Store indicated that "nearly 2 million" apps were available.
