Found in 1823 near the Jardin des Plantes and the amphitheatre of Lyon. In 43 BCE Roman senator and consul Lucius Munatius Plancus founded Colonia Copia Claudia Augusta Lugdunum (now: Lyon, France). Lugdunum served as the capital of the Roman province Gallia Lugdunensis.  It was possibly the most important city in the Roman Empire west of Italy.
