The TIROS 1 Satellite Transmits the First Television Picture from Space

On April 1, 1960 the first Television InfraRed Observation Satellite (TIROS 1), the first successful low-Earth orbital weather satellite, was launched by NASA from Cape Canaveral, Florida. That day the satellite transmitted the first television picture of the earth from space.
