In 1948 Columbia Records of New York introduced the 33 1/3 rpm Long Playing (LP) microgroove record with 17 minutes of music on each side. The first microgroove LP pressing released was Columbia ML4001, the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto in E Minor performed by soloist Nathan Milstein, and Bruno Walter conducting the New York Philharmonic Orchestra.
