Grace Hopper Writes "The Education of a Computer"
1952
First page of Hopper's The Education of a Computer" in which she means an electronic computer rather than a human computer. Hopper makes the statement, radical at the time, that "It is the current aim to replace, as far as possible the human brain by an electronic digital computer." This referred to the relationship betwen computing and the human brain rather than strictly artificial intelligence as that concept did not formally exist at the time.
In 1952 Grace Hopper published “The Education of a Computer,” in which she described fundamental principles in programming and anticipated future developments. (See Reading 9.5.)
