Munsell's colophon
An enlargement of Munsell's colophon. Munsell concluded his Typographical Miscellany with this archaic Latin colophon, which may be translated as "Miscellanea Typographica, collected and studiously compiled from diverse writings with additions and most faithful annotations and elaborations by Joel Munsell and company in the republic of New York, and printed in the Year of our Redemption, 1850, 20th day of November, finally finished, God be praised."
For all his talents, Munsell does not appear to have been a gifted typographer. The choice of type and the way it is arranged appears very awkward to me.
