Free File-Sharing Exceeds Sales of Digital Music Downloads

In 2006 free file-sharing of digital music on the web exceeded the sale of digital music downloads by many fold. Total music sales - including online - were off some 20 percent from five years ago. Songs traded freely over unlicensed Internet sites swamped the number of legal sales by thousands to one.
