In March and June, 1964 American mathematician and researcher in artificial intelligence Ray Solomonoff published "A Formal Theory of Inductive Inference, Part I" Information and Control, 7, No. 1, 1-22, and "A Formal Theory of Inductive Inference, Part II," Information and Control, 7, No. 2, 224-254. This two-art paper is considered the beginning of algorithmic information theory.
Solomonoff first described his results at a Conference at Caltech, 1960, and in a report of February, 1960: "A Preliminary Report on a General Theory of Inductive Inference."
