Koenig & Bauer Establish the First Papermaking Machine in Bavaria

3/14/1828 to 1831

In 1828 Koenig & Bauer set up and patented the first papermaking machine in Bavaria at the Münsterschwarzach cloister mill. This diversification helped the company to survive the market crash after the July Revolution in Paris in 1830. The Münsterschwarzach papermaking machine was one of the first established in Germany, and probably the first papermaking machine designed and built in Germany. Previously at least one papermaking machine had been imported from England.

The Königlich-Bayerische Inteligenzblatt für de Isarkreis, 21 September 1831, published an article of the papermaking machine on pp. 802-805, with a large folding plate.
