Oxford Dictionaries Declare "Post-Truth" is the International Word of the Year

During the campaigns for the U.S. 2016 presidential election and the 2016 "Brexit" referendum on membership in the European Union in the United Kingdom the term "post-truth" became widely used to describe the disconnect between policy (the "factual" substance of legislation) and public opinion and media narratives in politics, in which conspiracy theories were increasingly confused or substituted for "facts." Oxford Dictionaries declared that its international word of the year in 2016 was "post-truth", citing a 2,000% increase in usage compared to 2015.^[9]
