In 2001 Heidelberg University Library (Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg) and the Bibliotheca Apostolica Vaticana began a project of reunifying virtually the Bibliotheca Palatina, which was divided between the two institutions since the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648). Funded by the Manfred Lautenschläger Foundation, the project digitized a "core" of around 3000 manuscripts in both institutions, and made them freely accessible on the Internet. Completion of the Bibliotheca Palatina digital was announced in September 2018.
