The inscription from Thaddeus Davids & Co. appears to be dated June 22, 1869, though it may have ben dated in 1860, if you compare the "O" in "& Co". with the final number on the presentation date.

The prominent credit given to the lithographers, whose address was published on the title page, suggests that the illuminated page was an advertisement for the lithographers as much as Thaddeus Davids & Co.

In 1860 Thaddeus Davids & Co. of New York City published a promotional book entitled The History of Ink Including its Etymology, Chemistry and Bibliography. The focus of the book was on ink used in handwriting throughout the ages.  The book was intended to promote inks sold by Thaddeus Davids,
who built one the largest ink companies in the world at the time.
