Leonard Kleinrock with the Interface Message Processor that was used to send the first message over the Internet

On May 31, 1961 Leonard Kleinrock submitted his MIT thesis proposal, Information Flow in Large Communication Nets. Kleinrock's thesis proposal was the first paper on what later came to be known as data communications, or data networking theory.
