In October 1967 Welsh computer scientist Donald W. Davies of the National Physical Laboratory, Teddington, England, and three of his colleagues introduced the use of the term “packet” to describe discrete blocks of data sent over networks in their paper called “A Digital Communications Network for Computers. Giving Rapid Response at Remote Terminals." Davies presented his paper at the ACM Symposium on Operating System Principles held October 1–4, 1967 in Gatlinburg, Tennessee
